Video: Dana Perino, Helen Thomas Spar Over Troops, Iraqis ‘Killed’

November 30, 2007

Transcript:

HELEN THOMAS: Does the President want no troops out from Iraq on his watch? I’m talking about all the troops.

MS. PERINO: Well, 5,700 troops will be home by the end of the year, so that is some troops coming home. The President said that troop levels are going to be made by commanders on the ground, and that we’re going to have to talk about –

THOMAS: Why should it be? Why can’t the American people have a say?

MS. PERINO: — return on success. The American people have had a say. They elected a President who is their Commander-in-Chief and is making decisions based on what his commanders on the ground are telling him.

THOMAS: And you think that was the vote of the American people?

MS. PERINO: They elected a Commander-in-Chief, and the President is bringing home 5,700 troops, based on the recommendations of his commanders on the ground and based on return on success. Hopefully in the future we can bring home more, but it’s going to depend on what General Petraeus reports and remember he will come back in March.

THOMAS: Why should we depend on him?

MS. PERINO: Because he is the commander on the ground, Helen. He’s the one who is making sure that the situation is moving –

THOMAS: You mean how many more people we kill?

MS. PERINO: Helen, I find it really unfortunate that you use your front row position, bestowed upon you by your colleagues, to make such statements. This is a — it is an honor and a privilege to be in the briefing room, and to suggest that we, at the United States, are killing innocent people is just absurd and very offensive.

THOMAS: Do you know how many we have since the start of this war?

MS. PERINO: How many — we are going after the enemy, Helen. To the extent that any innocent Iraqis have been killed, we have expressed regret for it.

Q Oh, regret. It doesn’t bring back a life.

MS. PERINO: Helen, we are in a war zone, and our military works extremely hard to make sure that everyone has the opportunity for liberty and freedom and democracy, and that is exactly what they are doing.

I’m going to move on.

Conservative Group Threatens Lawsuit Against CNN

November 30, 2007

Ouch:

Dear Ms. Lipman:

I write to register strenuous objections to your highly unprofessional hit piece last night (Broken Government — “Campaign Killers,” hosted by Campbell Brown ) against David Bossie and Citizens United, and to demand an on-air retraction of part of it, along with corrections made in any future showings. In particular, if a retraction of the defamatory words “fringe militia” is not offered publicly by CNN, and soon, I will advise Mr. Bossie to consider legal action.

All of us here at Citizens United object to numerous aspects of CNN’s conduct.

Ms. Brown referred to Mr. Bossie and Citizens United as being one of several “fringe militias.” Not only is Citizens United hardly a “fringe” group (unless consistent and open association with the former Speaker of the House, a current leading presidential candidate, and numerous other leading Republicans can be considered “fringe”), but to refer to it as a “militia” is a clear and obvious falsehood. Hillary Gets Standing Ovation At Rick Warren’s Summit

November 30, 2007

World Net Daily’s Art Moore reports:

Within days of introducing a $50 billion plan to combat AIDS, Sen. Hillary Clinton received a standing ovation at one of the nation’s most influential evangelical churches after addressing its “Global Summit on AIDS and the Church” today.

If the Democratic presidential frontrunner’s aim was to make inroads into the heavily Republican evangelical electorate, her appearance at Saddleback Church with pastor and “The Purpose Driven Life” author Rick Warren apparently didn’t hurt.

###

“Well, first you asked me, and second, in a burst of enthusiasm, I said I would,” she said to laughter from summit attendees.

“I have been looking forward to this. I really have,” Clinton told Warren. “I know what this church is doing; I understand the commitment that is here and this conference which you’re holding that is attracting people literally from all over the world.

“I wanted to be here,” she added. “I thought I needed to be here, to share my thoughts, to have a better idea of what it is you’re achieving far beyond the boundaries of Saddleback.”

Video: Glenn Beck Invites Ron Paul On His Show

November 30, 2007

Just got this e-mail from Glenn Beck:

If elections were decided by how annoying supporters were, Ron Paul would have 100% of the vote. Every single day Glenn gets emails saying “why don’t you have Ron Paul on your show?” and it’s driving Glenn nuts. Why? Because he has invited Dr. Paul on the show many times and so far he hasn’t been able to find time for Glenn in his busy schedule. That’s fine if he doesn’t want to come on — but stop emailing Glenn about it, because he has offered! Since Ron Paul supporters are so good at spamming web polls and blogging, Glenn made this video for them to send around the internet so that Ron Paul supporters can start emailing the person who should be getting those harassing emails: RON PAUL.

Video: Olby and Edwards Attack Conservatives For Pointing Out Democratic Plants

November 30, 2007

Did Keith Olbermann just accuse someone of being afraid to take on opposing opinions? Is this coming from the Keith Olbermann who has never had any real conservative on who disagrees with his views? Continuing his diatribe, he attacked the Republicans for complaining about “at least one Democrat was some how allowed to ask a question.” “At least one” Democrat? Keith, there was at least four during the debate and perhaps another in the focus group.

OLBERMANN: Can you tell us for the record whether you have any contingencies plan in place if heaven forbid sometime in the future someone that’s not a Democrat, even an actual registered Republican, somehow able to ask you a question?

EDWARDS: Heaven forbid, how can we possibly survive if somebody who has an antagonistic or a different point of view than you do ask you a question and no we can’t possibly expect somebody who answers questions from either independents or the other party to get elected POTUS. How could anybody be ready to do that? I just think this whole discussion is ridiculous.

Ridiculous indeed, Senator. How can Edwards think it’s “ridiculous” that Republicans don’t enjoy answering questions from Democrats? Rather, Republicans don’t like taking questions from people pretending to be “undecided GOP voters.” Meanwhile he is saying this load of crap on Countdown with Keith Olbermann, one of the most biased names in news.

The commies at Crooks & Liars are pooh-poohing the Democratic plants:

Edwards and Olbermann made light of way the right (I’m looking at you, Michelle Malkin, although it made Joe Scarborough an angry little Republican this morning as well) is going nutty over the fact that a Hillary Clinton volunteer–who, by the way, was a registered Republican and a member of the Log Cabin Republicans and has contributed no money to the Clinton campaign–was allowed to ask a question during the debate last night.

I wonder what their reaction would be if Democratic candidates dared to attend the Fox News debate and a question came from a very conservative audience member. Hmm, I don’t think Edwards would be taking so kindly then.

Conan Opts To Pay Staff During Strike

November 30, 2007

AFP/Google:

Late-night US talkshow host Conan O’Brien is paying the salaries of nearly 80 members of staff threatened by unemployment in the Hollywood writers’s strike, it was reported Thursday.

Entertainment industry journal Daily Variety reported the popular 44-year-old comic was footing the bill for dozens of staff from “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” who have not worked since the strike began on November 5.

O’Brien is continuing to pay the wages of non-writing production staff because of the loyalty employees have shown towards him over the years, Variety reported on its website.

Video: “Undecided GOP Voter” Considers Voting For Edwards

November 29, 2007

CNN didn’t just have Democratic supporters asking the questions last night, there was at least one in their debate focus group. When the focus group leader asked the group if they will leave supporting any candidate, none of them raised their hand. However, when she asked if any of them will be supporting a Democrat, one member asked her hand. Sharon Turner, a “Republican voter” according to CNN, said she is very much considering casting her ballot for … John Edwards. Watch:

Transcript:

Sharon, you said you may have decided but probably not a choice that people expect. Who was that maybe? Do you have your…

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Well, I think if the Democrats have John Edwards, I’d vote for John Edwards.

HILL: So you would consider — because nothing you heard tonight convinced you that any of these eight men are the right choice for you?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: There’s maybe three that could possibly be the right choice. But I’m really going to have to look a little closer at the three that — I had thought about — I had thought about Giuliani. I’d thought about Mitt Romney. Also Fred Thompson. I don’t care for his TV shows, but you know, I thought maybe him being an actor, that was just a facade, and it’s not.
